stephanie Barnhart
Stephanie Barnhart is a lifelong snowboarder, marketing and creative strategist, and Executive Director of NASJA who loves bringing women together through a shared love of winter and the outdoors. After years of searching for more women to ride with, she found her mountain community and now helps other women build meaningful friendships, challenge themselves, and feel at home on the mountain.
As a lifelong female snowboarder in a sport that can still feel pretty "bro" focused, Stephanie Barnhart has spent years looking for more female friends and connection on the mountain. That search led her to women’s ski and snowboard communities like Ski Moms, Inclusive Ski Touring in New Hampshire, and East Coast Lady Boarders, where she found friendships that now extend well beyond ski season and, ultimately, co-hosting with The Retreat Co. and helping other women find friends on snow and build their own mountain community.
Stephanie works in marketing, creative strategy, and digital media, with a background in journalism and national event production. She holds a Master’s degree in Journalism and has led teams and projects across many major U.S. markets. Over the years, she has increasingly brought her passion for the outdoors into her professional life and now serves as Executive Director of the North American Snowsports Journalists Association (NASJA), where she combines her experience in communications, live events, and industry gatherings with her love of winter sports.
Snowboarding and skiing are a huge part of Stephanie’s life, and she logs more than 60+ days on snow each season (not bad for someone who still spends half the year in the NYC metro area!). She and her son spend much of their winter together in the mountains, from resort days to uphill touring, and she stays active year-round through hiking, biking, and other outdoor adventures.
Having spent so many years as one of the only women in her riding group, Stephanie loves helping create spaces where women can get outside, meet new people, challenge themselves, and find the kind of mountain community she was once searching for herself.
