Women Who Can’t Not: The Woman Who Chose Expansiveness

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t booking the trip. It’s trusting yourself enough to say yes.

For Margy, joining a ski retreat wasn’t entirely new territory. She had attended retreats before and understood the power of stepping away from everyday life. But this was her first ski retreat, and like many women, she still had questions, hesitations, and a busy schedule to navigate. What she found over the weekend was exactly what she hoped for: connection, adventure, confidence, and a reminder to stay open to what’s next.

What made you decide to join the ski retreat?

Charlotte: She sent you this trip. Were you hesitant at all? Did you think it might not be for you?

Margy: Not so much that it wasn’t for me. It was more about the timing because it was so close to the actual weekend.

Our snow has also been a little spotty up here.

Those were really my only concerns.

But I was so excited about the list of activities that I wanted to make it work.

It sounded amazing. I also read reviews from previous retreats, and every woman seemed so happy with her experience afterward.

That gave me a lot of confidence. So really, the question wasn’t whether I wanted to go. It was whether I could make the schedule work.

Charlotte: Have you done anything like this before?

Margy: Not for skiing. But I have attended quite a few retreats over the years.

Many of them were focused on health, wellness, or spirituality.

This felt aligned with that too. Because I’ve done retreats before, I know how important it is to pay attention to what past guests say.

Reading the comments and testimonials helped me get a really good feel for the energy of the experience. That made me feel very confident about booking.

Why are experiences like this important to you?

Charlotte: Tell us a little bit about your past life and why something like this is interesting to you.

Margy: I love travel. I’ve traveled and lived all over the world, and I genuinely enjoy meeting new people.

One of the beautiful things about retreats is that everyone arrives with some common thread connecting them.

Maybe it’s skiing. Maybe it’s yoga. Maybe it’s food, nature, movement, or being outdoors.

Whatever it is, there is already a shared excitement before the weekend even begins. That creates an immediate bond.

I may be at a point in life where I feel comfortable showing up to experiences like this.

But after this weekend, it reinforced that it was absolutely the right decision. I’m so glad I went.

What surprised you most about the experience?

Charlotte: Did anything about the experience surprise or delight you?

Margy: I usually try to ski every other weekend. But because of the snow conditions and my travel schedule this year, I hadn’t been skiing as much as I wanted.

Toward the end of the retreat, you and I peeled away from the group and went down KT together.

For anyone who skis Tahoe, KT is iconic. You were so thoughtful and encouraging. You didn’t push me.

You made sure I felt completely comfortable before taking that next step.

At the end of the run, I felt so confident. So happy. And honestly, it was because you skied right alongside me the whole way.

It ended up being one of the highlights of the entire weekend.

What was it like meeting a group of women you didn’t know?

Charlotte: How did it feel to be surrounded by women, many of whom you didn’t know beforehand?

Margy: Anytime you go on a retreat, everyone starts introducing themselves.

You expect that there will be great stories and connections by the end.

But what surprised me was how quickly it happened.

We arrived, did some icebreakers, had food and drinks, and started sharing stories about where we were from and how we got there.

Within twenty minutes, I felt completely comfortable. I remember thinking, “This is going to be so awesome. This is going to be such a good weekend.”

Everyone came in excited. Everyone wanted to be there.

You did an amazing job facilitating introductions, making connections, and making sure everyone felt welcome from the moment they arrived. Even beforehand.

It was such a gift to put the outside world away for a few days and focus on being present with people who shared the same energy.

Suggested Video Clip: Margy describing how comfortable she felt within the first twenty minutes of arriving.

What would you tell someone who is holding back?

Charlotte: What would you say to someone who is holding back for one reason or another?

Margy: Just go. You have to go. You’re going to love it. You’re going to have so much fun.

Charlotte will answer all of your questions.

And the other women attending probably have some of the exact same hesitations that you do.

By the end of the weekend, you’ll be so happy you didn’t miss it.

Charlotte: What is one word you would use to describe the ski retreat?

Margy: Expansive.

I came away feeling like all the little worries I had before the trip had disappeared.

What filled in was expansiveness. The women. Their stories. The friendships. The food.

The way you took care of everyone. It all felt expansive. For a few days, I was completely present. My heart felt full.

I left feeling so happy and so re energized.

What did your spirit animal teach you?

Charlotte: If this trip were a movie, what would it be called?

Margy: Something about opening your heart.

Opening your heart to the next chapter.

Breaking through fears and worries and having this beautiful heart opening experience in nature.

Charlotte: What was your spirit animal?

Margy: The rabbit.

I’ve gone through a lot of changes in my personal life over the last few years.

Fear can show up at any stage of life. Pulling the rabbit felt incredibly meaningful.

It felt like a spotlight reminding me not to be afraid. To keep my heart open. To stay brave. It felt like synchronicity.

Like a reminder that when you’re excited about something, you should go do it.
